BIN Range Lookup
Card networks are allocated blocks of leading digits, and they sub-allocate ranges within those blocks to issuers. The reference tables below cover every major network. To find the specific issuer inside a range, use the lookup:

Ranges are as published by the networks. Record counts are measured from our production dataset of 3,289,919 BINs.
Mastercard: Two Live Ranges
Mastercard is the range most often got wrong, because it has two. The original allocation
is 51–55. The 2-series, 2221–2720, was
introduced to expand supply and has been live for years.
Both are equally valid. A card beginning 2221 through 2720 is a
Mastercard. Any validation that tests for a leading 5 — a regex like
^5[1-5] is the usual culprit — will reject a large and growing share of
legitimate Mastercards. In our dataset the 2-series is already about 6% of all Mastercard
records.
Note that the 2-series boundaries are four digits, not two. 22 is too coarse:
2221 is Mastercard, but 2220 is not, and 2721 is
outside the range.
Discover: The Most Fragmented Allocation
Discover holds four discontinuous blocks: 6011, the range
622126–622925, 644–649, and 65. Two are four
digits wide, one is a six-digit block, and one is two digits.
That mix is why Discover identification goes wrong so often — a rule written for one block
silently misses the others, and the 622126–622925 block in particular is easy
to omit because it requires comparing six digits numerically rather than matching a prefix.
Anything inside 65 also needs care: Diners Club and Elo hold ranges that
begin 65 too.
Ranges Identify Networks, Not Issuers
A range tells you the scheme. It cannot tell you the bank, the country, or whether the card is credit or debit — and this is where range-matching is most often over-trusted.
A single 6-digit range is frequently subdivided among several institutions. In our dataset around 6.6% of records resolve to a different issuer, country, or funding type at 8 digits than at 6. Range logic gets you the network; only a BIN lookup at 8 or more digits gets you the issuer. See the 8-digit BIN checker for a worked example.
Regional Schemes and Co-Brands
Beyond the seven major networks, our dataset holds ranges for schemes that sit inside blocks resembling other networks:

Co-branded ranges route on two networks and appear in the data as combinations — Mastercard/UnionPay, Visa/UnionPay, Visa/Dankort, Discover/RuPay. If your logic assumes one scheme per prefix, these are where it breaks.

- Mastercard uses two ranges: the original 51–55, and the 2-series 2221–2720 introduced to expand supply. Both are live, and a card starting 2221 through 2720 is as much a Mastercard as one starting 51 through 55. Systems that only check for a leading 5 will reject valid Mastercards.
